22 February 2005 -- A U.S. official says a working dinner between President George W. Bush and French President Jacques Chirac has resulted in one of the "best" ever discussions between the two leaders.
Bush and Chirac, who have disagreed over the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq and other issues, met last night in Brussels on the first day of Bush's tour of Europe this week.
In a joint statement, Bush and Chirac called for the withdrawal of Syrian troops from Lebanon and backed a United Nations investigation into last week's killing of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.
The two leaders were also expected to discuss during their dinner Iran's nuclear program, the Middle East peace process, and the future of Iraq.
Earlier, the two leaders told reporters they were committed to restoring strong relations.
