22 February 2005 -- NATO's secretary general says all 26 members of the alliance are now working together to help train Iraq's military.
The comments by Jaap de Hoop Scheffer came during a NATO summit today attended by U.S. President George W. Bush, who has been calling for more involvement by NATO members in Iraq.
France, Germany, and other opponents to the Iraq war will not send instructors to Iraq, however. They are limiting their contribution to training outside the country or funding for the operation.
French President Jacques Chirac said in a speech during the summit that France will offer up to 2 million euros for a training program this year.
The mission inside Iraq currently comprises about 110 instructors training senior Iraqi officers in Baghdad's heavily protected Green Zone. More than half of the NATO instructors are American.
