24 February 2005 -- Afghan President Hamid Karzai is due to meet with India's Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi, leader of the governing Congress Party today, as he continues his official visit to New Delhi.
On the first day of his visit, Karzai yesterday told Indian officials that he has asked Pakistan to allow its territory to be used as a transportation corridor for Indian goods being sent to Afghanistan. Most goods from India to Afghanistan now travel via Iran because of the strained relations between India and Pakistan.
Indian and Pakistani authorities, who are currently engaged in a peace process, are reported to have agreed to consider easing barriers that have hampered trade between the two countries.
