7 March 2005 -- Former Serbian Army General Momcilo Perisic surrendered to the UN war crimes tribunal today to face charges stemming from the Balkan wars of the 1990s.
A tribunal spokesman confirmed Perisic was in custody.
Perisic, former army chief of staff during Slobodan Milosevic's rule, was indicted last week. Details of his indictment have not been made public.
Perisic is the fourth-ranking Serbian commander since January to announce his readiness to be tried by the UN tribunal.
Last week he said he was willing to face the court "to defend my honor, to defend the reputation of the army and the dignity of our people."
