10 March 2005 -- An explosion hit a Shi'ite funeral service at a mosque in the mostly Sunni city of Mosul in northern Iraq today. Authorities say at least 26 people were killed.
Details about the blast are still unclear. Some reports quote witnesses as saying the explosion was caused by a suicide bomber. Casualty figures are expected to rise.
In other news, Iraqi National Security Adviser Muwaffaq al-Rubay'i told RFE/RL today that Iraqi forces are "close" to finding Abu Mus'ab al-Zarqawi, the country's most-wanted insurgent.
Al-Qaeda-linked al-Zarqawi leads an insurgent group in Iraq that has claimed responsibility for many bloody attacks and killings.
Earlier, insurgents killed the head of a police station in Baghdad and several other policemen traveling with him.
