Prishtina, 15 March 2005 (RFE/RL) -- Kosovar President Ibrahim Rugova said in Prishtina today that he believes a bomb attack on a convoy in which he was riding was carried out by people seeking to destabilize the province's government.
"As the president, I condemn this act," he said. "The people who do things like this should be stopped, and they must be punished. We cannot allow such things that endanger the lives of the citizens of Kosova."
The explosion of a remote-controlled bomb in Kosova's capital, Prishtina, damaged a car carrying Rugova early today to meet with visiting European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana.
Nobody was injured in the attack. Rugova transferred to another car and went on to the meeting with Solana to discuss forming a new government in the UN-administered Serbian province.
The top UN official in the province, Soren Jessen-Petersen, called Rugova today to condemn the attack and express his shock.
