Ukraine's President Viktor Yushchenko is to meet U.S. President Bush today
Prague, 4 April 4 2005 -- Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko is expected to meet U.S. President George W. Bush today in Washington.
The Ukrainian leader arrived on 3 April in the U.S. on a four-day tour of the U.S. to bolster bilateral ties.
Reports say Bush and Yushchenko will discuss a range of issues, including the secret and illegal sale of missiles to Iran and China four years ago. Some Ukrainian politicians have alleged that then President Leonid Kuchma approved the sales. Ukraine's prosecutor-general has launched a probe.
Also today, Yushchenko holds talks with U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
On 6 April in Washington, Yushchenko will address a joint session of the U.S. Congress.
While in the U.S., Yushchenko will also visit Boston and Chicago -- a city with a large ethnic Ukrainian community and the hometown of the Ukrainian leader's wife, Kathy Chumachenko who is also making the trip.
Yushchenko came to power as the leader of widespread opposition protests against election fraud at the end of last year that came to be known as the Orange Revolution.
