16 April 2005 -- At least 10 people died today in a series of attacks in Iraq, including six members of Iraqi security forces.
An Iraqi Army officer, Colonel Ismail Ibrahim, said seven people were killed, including three policemen, in an explosion in a restaurant in Baquba, north of Baghdad.
In the northern city of Kirkuk, police official Brigadier Sarhat Qadir said gunmen killed a policeman and two soldiers as they headed to work in separate drive-by shootings.
The U.S. military said a U.S. soldier was killed in Tikrit late yesterday by "indirect fire" on a coalition military base.
Meanwhile, reports say dozens of Shi'a Muslims are being held hostage in the town Madaen, south of Baghdad. Gunmen believed to be Sunnis seized the hostages late yesterday and have threatened to kill them unless Shi'ites leave the town.
