Condoleezza Rice
19 April 2005 -- Reporters Without Borders (RPW) has urged U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to raise what it called serious threats to press freedom in Russia when she meets with President Vladimir Putin in Moscow today.
RPW said in a letter to Rice that journalists in Russia are being subjected to a rising spiral of violence with numbers of them suffering brutal attacks.
The group says that 17 journalists were physically attacked and three threatened last year because of their work. It said violence against journalists constitutes the most serious threat to press freedom in Russia.
