23 June 2005 (RFE/RL) -- Heavy flooding across southern China has killed 80 people, and forced almost 700,000 to evacuate their homes.
The "China Daily" warns the worst may be to come with torrential rain forecast for southern and southeastern China at least until the end of the week.
The newspaper said rivers swollen by days of heavy rain had done much of the damage, particularly in the Guangxi region, where at least 32 people had died and 23 were missing.
