10 Killed In Daghestan Blast

1 July 2005 (RFE/RL) -- At least 10 people were killed today by a bomb blast in Makhachkala, capital of Russia's republic of Daghestan.
Zaur Isaev, Daghestan's deputy prosecutor, says some of those killed were Russian soldiers.

The bomb, packed with metal rods, exploded on a street as a military truck drove past it.

Dagestan, which borders war-ravaged Chechnya, has seen an increase in violence recently, with the assassination of several prominent local officials and the killing of more than 20 police officers since January.
