6 July 2005 -- Georgian officials say that heavy rains flooded rivers north of the Georgian capital, damaging houses and washing out roads, leaving some villages cut off from the outside world.
Yesterday's downpour in the Dusheti region, 40 kilometers north of Tbilisi, flooded several houses in the regional center Dusheti and outlying villages.
The rains were accompanied by gale-force winds that tore roofs off houses.
Last month, heavy rains in the same region flooded more than 200 homes, killing a 70-year-old woman who was trapped in her house.
Spring floods that washed through the capital and western Georgia were called the worst to hit the country in two decades.
