9 July 2005 (RFE/RL) -- North Korea's state news agency KCNA says Pyongyang has agreed to return to stalled six-way talks on its nuclear-weapons program.
The report says North Korea decided to restart the talks after Deputy Foreign Minister Kim Kye Gwan had talks with U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Christopher Hill in Beijing on 9 July.
The renewed talks are due to begin the week of 25 July.
The United States has been seeking the dismantling of North Korea's nuclear-weapons program since 2002. It has joined with China, South Korea, Japan, and Russia in three rounds of discussions with North Korea. Those talks produced no discernable progress.
Until today, North Korea had declined to set a date for a new round.
