Jordan To Send Ambassador To Iraq Soon

9 July 2005 (RFE/RL) -- Jordan's King Abdullah says his country will send an ambassador to Iraq in the near future.
In a television interview aired today, the king said his country will not give in to extremists targeting foreign diplomats in Iraq.

The king said Jordan will send its ambassador to Baghdad "sooner rather than later," in light of the reported killing of Egypt's top diplomat to Iraq, Ihab al-Sharif, following his kidnapping on 2 July.

The Al-Qaeda in Iraq group has claimed responsibility for killing the diplomat.

Egypt has since said it will temporarily close its embassy in Iraq.
