17 July 2005 -- The Iraqi government today dramatically raised the death toll from the overnight suicide bombing in Musayyib.
"The enemies of freedom and humanity" killed "more than 90" people and wounded more than 150 others in Musayyib, south of Baghdad, the government said in a statement. The death toll had previously stood at around 70.
A suicide bomber detonated his explosives near a truck transporting gas, causing a huge blast as worshippers were headed to a Shi'ite mosque for evening prayers.
Three separate suicide bombers in Baghdad targeted U.S. and Iraqi forces, killing at least 19 people.
A fourth suicide bomber in the town of Mahmoudiya, about 30 kilometers south of Baghdad, missed a U.S. military convoy but hit two minibuses. At least six civilians were killed.
The U.S. military said today that two American soldiers were killed in separate incidents yesterday.
