Two Ukrainian Nuclear Reactors Shut Down

20 July 2005 -- Two nuclear reactors in Ukraine have been shut down due to malfunctions.
Emergency officials say radiation levels remain normal at the Rivne nuclear power plant, in western Ukraine, and the
Southern Ukraine plant, in the Mykolaiv region.

Employees disconnected Rivne's No. 4 reactor from the national power grid after low water levels caused two power
supply pumps to turn off.

The ministry said reactor No. 2 of the Southern Ukraine plant automatically turned off after a crack appeared in a
pipe.
