Fresh Clashes Erupt In Central Iraqi City

22 July 2005 -- Fresh clashes are reported in the central Iraqi city of Samarra between insurgents and U.S. and Iraqi soldiers.
As many as four people have been killed, including three civilians.

In Baghdad, at least three people died today in separate insurgent attacks targeting Iraqi police.

Hundreds of people have died in attacks around the country in recent days as insurgents appear to have stepped up violence against Iraqi police and civilians.

Meanwhile, there has been no claim of responsibility in the kidnapping yesterday of two Algerian diplomats. The abductions brought to five the number of diplomats from Islamic countries targeted in Baghdad in less than three weeks.
