24 July 2005 -- One person was killed and two wounded in a train explosion in the Russian Caucasus republic of Daghestan this morning.
Authorities said the blast occurred as the train was traveling between the town of Khassaviurt in the west of the republic and the regional capital Makhachkala.
One of the wounded, according to ITAR-TASS, was a policeman.
Railway traffic was suspended by the blast. Law-enforcement officials have arrived on the scene to investigate.
The authorities often blame such attacks -- which have increased in recent months -- on Islamists in Daghestan.
