25 July 2005 (RFE/RL) -- Reports say that Russia's Supreme Court today convicted three federal judges of fraud for illegally approving real-estate deals.
Prosecutors said the three illegally authorized the transfer of apartments in situations when owners had died but left no documents for transferring the property to relatives.
Russian state-run television reported that the three judges illegally expropriated at least 110 apartments in the Moscow region over a four-year period.
The court has not yet sentenced the three judges. Prosecutors are seeking jail terms of at least 12 years for the three.
