Attack On British Consulate Convoy In Iraq Kills Two

30 July 2005 -- A British consulate convoy was hit by a roadside bomb in the southern Iraqi city of Al-Basrah today, killing two British security guards.
A spokeswoman with the consulate in Al-Basrah, Karen McLuskie, said the attack occurred as the convoy was passing through the city.

It is unclear if anyone else was injured in the blast.

Al-Basrah, Iraq's second-largest city, has been relatively calm over the past 18 months. British forces are responsible for security in the city and other towns in southern Iraq, which is predominantly Shi'ite.
