U.S., Iraqi Soldiers Killed In Iraq

7 August 2005 -- Western news agencies, citing the U.S. command and police and hospital officials, are reporting today that a number of U.S. and Iraqi soldiers and Oil Ministry officials were killed in violence around Iraq.
The U.S. command says a roadside bomb killed two U.S. soldiers and injured three others in central Iraq late yesterday.

Hospital officials say three Iraqi soldiers were killed in a drive-by shooting in the south of the Iraqi capital today.

In the New Baghdad district of the capital, gunmen killed two employees of Iraq's Oil Ministry and wounded two others today.

In the northern town of Tikrit, police say that a suicide bomber killed at least five people in an attack on police headquarters.

Meanwhile, Iraqi political leaders and members of the committee drafting the country's constitution meet today in Baghdad to work out differences over the document.

The committee is facing a 15 August deadline to submit the document to parliament for approval.
