9 August 2005 (RFE/RL) -- U.S. diplomatic missions in Saudi Arabia remain closed today for the second consecutive day --> /featuresarticle/2005/08/921642ea-ad2c-4124-bc3c-1097f6653786.html because of terrorist threats.
A U.S. statement released on 7 August said the embassy in Riyadh and the consulates in the Red Sea city of Jeddah and the eastern city of Dhahran would be closed on 8 August and today "in response to a threat against U.S. government buildings in the kingdom."

Saudi Interior Ministry spokesman General Mansur al-Turki has said there has been no confirmed information about any imminent terrorist threat in the kingdom.

But the British Embassy in Riyadh released a statement on 8 August that said it has "credible reports" that terrorists are in the "final stages" of planning attacks in Saudi Arabia against Westerners and places associated with Westerners in Saudi Arabia.
