17 August 2005 (RFE/RL) -- Jordan's King Abdullah is in Moscow today to visit an air show before traveling to the Black Sea resort of Sochi for a meeting with President Vladimir Putin.
The king told ITAR-TASS upon arriving in the Russian capital late on 16 August that he wants to attend the MAKS 2005 international aerospace show at the Zhukovskii airfield outside of Moscow to "look into purchasing Russian military systems" for Jordan's armed forces.
Abdullah also talked of his meeting with Putin, planned for 19 August. He said the two will discuss the situations in Iran, Iraq and the Middle East. Abdullah praised the current Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, saying Israel is "acting sincerely."
Russia -- along with the European Union, United Nations, and United States -- is sponsoring the "road map" plan for peace in the Middle East between Israel and the Palestinians.
