1 September 2005 -- Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said today Russia will not develop an anti-Western attitude despite alleged attempts to distort the country's image overseas.
Interfax quoted Lavrov as telling the Moscow International Relations Institute today that Russia sees a campaign in the Western media to distort the picture of what is happening in Russia.
Lavrov is quoted as saying that Moscow will not allow anyone to provoke the country to adopt "primitive" anti-Western policies.
Russia has been criticized from abroad over what some charge was the politically motivated dismantling of oil giant Yukos and for its support of Uzbekistan following a bloody crackdown on a May uprising.
Russia, in turn, complains that Western countries are funding attempts to overturn governments in former Soviet states.
