7 September 2005 -- Serbia-Montenegro's President Svetozar Marovic today posthumously awarded medals to 16 state television workers killed in a 1999 NATO air strike.
The Serbian Television workers were awarded the prestigious Work Medal for their conscientious and professional conduct during the NATO air war.
NATO considered Serbian Television to be a propaganda tool of former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic, and declared it a legitimate target.
NATO missiles slammed into the network's Belgrade headquarters on 23 April 1999, killing 16 people on night duty.
NATO launched a 78-day bombing campaign to halt a Serbian crackdown on separatist ethnic Albanians in Serbia's southern Kosovo province.
