15 September 2005 (RFE/RL) -- U.S. authorities say they have indicted 13 Bosnian Serbs for immigration fraud, accusing them of lying about their military service to secure visas to the United States.
U.S. immigration officer Roberto Medina late on 14 September said the 13 range in age from 34 to 63 years. He said they are from Bosnia-Herzegovina and are accused of failing to disclose their service in the Bosnian Serb Army, which fought against Bosnia's secession from former Yugoslavia.
He said none of the accused are suspected of involvement in war crimes.
Due to atrocities committed during the Bosnian conflict in 1992-95, U.S. authorities require those from the area who seek refuge in the United States to declare in detail all aspects of their military service.
