Daghestani Police Detain Suspected Rebel

28 September 2005 -- Police in Russia's southern republic of Daghestan say they have detained a suspected rebel they identified as Tagir Dadaev.
Dadaev is alleged to be part of a gang headed by local warlord Rappani Khalilov. Dadaev was captured yesterday in
the town of Dylym, on the border with Chechnya.

In Chechnya, meanwhile, local police discovered a large home-made bomb in a car they stopped near the provincial
capital, Grozny. The bomb -- weighing 60 kilos -- was filled with ammonium nitrates, aluminum powder, and TNT.

The driver and passengers in the car jumped into a second car -- also believed to have contained a bomb -- and escaped.
