Lithuania Releases Russian Pilot

6 October 2005 (RFE/RL) -- Lithuanian authorities today released the pilot of a Russian military plane that crashed in the Baltic country in September.
Authorities in Vilnius say that they no longer suspect the pilot of intentionally violating Lithuania's air space.

The pilot ejected safetly when his Sukhoi-27 aircraft experienced malfunctions and crashed. Lithuanian authorities detained the pilot as they investigated his role in the crash, which Vilnius and Moscow agree was an accident.
