The birds died on a farm in the Danube Delta
7 October 2005 (RFE/RL) -- Romanian officials say they restricted access to a village in the Danube Delta after three farm ducks were found dead and were being tested for bird flu.
Agriculture Minister Gheorghe Flutur told reporters today that authorities restricted movement in and out of the village of Ceamurlia de Jos and banned the transport of animals from the area.
Flutur would not comment whether the suspected disease was the deadly H5N1strain. He said the government had set up a crisis group and that tests from the dead birds had been sent to Britain for testing.
More than 60 people in Asia have died after contracting bird flu - some probably catching it from other humans.
No cases of H5N1 have been confirmed in Europe, in birds or people.
(with local television and additional international agency reporting)
