Former Kyrgyz Premier Applies To Run For Parliament

Former Prime Minister Tanaev (file photo) 12 October 2005 -- Kyrgyzstan's former prime minister and the former top prosecutor are seeking to run in parliamentary by-elections next month.
The Kyrgyz Central Election Commission today said it will soon verify the candidacies of former Prime Minister Nikolai Tanaev and former Prosecutor-General Azimbek Beknazarov.

The 27 November 27 by-election is to fill two vacancies in parliament.

Tanaev is currently being investigated for alleged abuse of office.

Last month, Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiev sacked Beknazarov for his allegedly improper handling of a murder investigation. Beknazarov was also heading the probe against Tanaev.
