In a statement late yesterday, the military said four Afghan troops and a U.S. soldier were wounded in the fighting.
The deadliest clashes were in southern Uruzgan Province, while in eastern Paktika Province U.S. soldiers killed one suspected militant after he was seen attempting to place a roadside bomb on 28 October.
Meanwhile, RFE/RL correspondents report that in the northern Afghan city of Mazar-i-Sharif suspected militants attacked a car carrying Dutch soldiers today. It was not immediately clear whether the three Dutch soldiers inside the vehicle were killed or injured. Local police said they detained three of the attackers.
More than 1,100 people, most of them suspected militants, were killed in a resurgence of Taliban-linked violence this year.
