Lawyers Appeal Arrest Of Russian Scientist

(RFE/RL) 14 November 2005 -- The head of a Russian space-technology company arrested on charges of giving China technology that could be used for military purposes is appealing his arrest.
The Federal Security Service (FSB) confirmed today that Igor Reshetin was arrested last month on charges of selling dual-use technology to a Chinese company.

Reshetin and two of his assistants, who are also in custody, are also accused of misappropriation of funds.

Reshetin's lawyers today said they are appealing his arrest, which they said was illegal.

The export company Reshetin headed was set up in 1991 to carry out contract deals in space engineering on behalf of Russia's leading Central Scientific Research Institute for Machine-building.
