21 November 2005 -- Moscow election officials have asked prosecutors to determine whether an election campaign video made by Russia's nationalist Liberal Democratic Party violates election laws by inciting ethnic hatred.
The LDPR, led by Vladimir Zhirinovskii, prepared a video for Moscow legislative elections next month. Election officials said that if the video commercial was found to be in violation of election campaign rules, the LDPR could be banned from the 4 December election to the Moscow City Duma.
It is the second time within less than a month that Moscow election officials have asked prosecutors to rule on election campaign materials. Earlier this month, prosecutors were asked to determine whether a video commercial of the nationalist Rodina (Motherland) party with racist and anti-immigrant undertones violates election campaign rules.
