22 November 2005 -- Kazakh Interior Minister Baurzhan Mukhamejanov said today that investigators have not ruled out suicide as the cause of a politician's death earlier this month.
Zamanbek Nurkadilov, an outspoken critic of Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbaev, was found dead in his home.
The former Almaty mayor had bullet wounds to his chest and head.
Mukhamejanov said investigators had not yet ruled out any cause for his death, which comes ahead of presidential elections on 4 December.
Mukhamejanov said there were no signs that anyone broke into Nurkadilov's home and no evidence on video cameras outside Nurkadilov's home that anyone had entered the property.
Mukhamejanov also said that, according to Nurkadilov's family and friends, he had been depressed before his death.
