Foreigners Targeted In Iraq

(RFE/RL) 28 November 2005 -- There has been a new surge of violence affecting foreigners in Iraq.

In one incident, four Western aid workers -- two Canadians, a Briton, and an American -- are reported to have been kidnapped in a violent neighborhood of Baghdad on 26 November.

There is no information on who may have abducted them, or why.

In a separate attack, at least two British nationals of Indian origin were killed today when a bus carrying Shi'ite pilgrims came under fire in southern Baghdad. Up to four other foreigners in the bus were wounded in the incident.

The pilgrims were traveling to the holy Shi'ite cities of Al-Najaf and Karbala.
