8 December 2005 -- The British government has said a British transport aircraft that crashed in Iraq in late January was brought down by "hostile ground-to-air fire."
Announcing the result of a military investigation, Defense Secretary John Reid said on 8 December that, for operational reasons, the exact nature of the weapon was not being disclosed.
The crash, which killed 10 military personnel, occurred after take-off from Baghdad airport on 30 January and resulted in the biggest single loss of British forces in Iraq.
