U.S. Judge Orders Alleged Nazi Deported To Ukraine

29 December 2005 -- A U.S. federal judge has ordered the deportation of an 85-year-old native Ukrainian accused of being a guard at concentration camps during World War II.
John Demjanjuk has been ordered to return to Ukraine, despite objections from his lawyer that he will be arrested and face torture there.

Demjanjuk has been fighting deportation since the 1970s. He has argued that he was a prisoner of war, not a guard.

He was suspected for a time of being the notoriously brutal guard known as Ivan the Terrible and was nearly executed in Israel.
