Report: Mladic Received State Pension Until Last Month

The report said Mladic (left) never withdrew the money himself (file photo) (epa) 29 December 2005 -- A Serbian radio station reported today that up until last month, the army had been paying a pension to UN war crimes suspect Ratko Mladic.

Mladic, a former general in the Bosnian Army, is wanted by the United Nations war crimes tribunal on charges of committing atrocities during the 1992-1995 war in Bosnia.

Radio station B-92 said pension payments had gone to a bank account in his name. It said Mladic never withdrew money from the account but members of his family and two officers of the army of Serbia and Montenegro had the power of attorney to withdraw his pension.

The radio said authorities in Belgrade have now canceled the payments.
