21 January 2006 - Hundreds of Communists defied freezing temperatures today to pay commemorate the 82nd anniversary of the death of the Soviet leader, Vladimir Lenin.
Carrying red flags and bearing portraits of the founder of the Soviet Union, they queued under the walls of the Kremlin to lay flowers at the entrance of the Mausoleum where Lenin’s embalmed body lies.
It was unclear whether the ceremony was attended by Russian Communist leader Gennady Zyuganov, who was scheduled to meet with party activists outside Moscow.
Zyuganov this week once again protested suggestions that Lenin’s body should be removed from its mausoleum on Red Square and buried in a cemetery.
