Al-Jazeera Correspondent Attacked In Moscow

23 January 2006 -- A correspondent of the Arabic television news station Al-Jazeera says he was beaten up by an unknown attacker in Moscow.

The incident happened late on 22 January when the 39-year-old correspondent, identified as Abd al-Munim, and a girlfriend were parking their car in front of al-Munim's house.


According to al-Munim, the driver of another car they had let pass stopped, sprang out of his vehicle, hit al-Munim several times in the chest and face, and then fled.


Prosecutors have opened a criminal investigation into the incident.


The Al-Jazeera correspondent is reportedly a Russian citizen.
