23 January 2006 -- Officials in Kenya's capital Nairobi are appealing for blood donations and heavy equipment as rescue efforts continue at the site of a building collapse.
Doctors say nine people are confirmed dead and some 70 others are being treated for injuries after being pulled from the site of the building collapse in downtown Nairobi.
Some 300 people were in the five-story structure when it crumbled. Many are still believed to be trapped. Authorities have appealed to foreign countries, including Britain and Israel to aid in the rescue efforts. They have also appealed to people to donate blood for survivors.
