The bomb went off as worshippers were leaving a Shi'ite mosque after prayers in the capital's Al-Dura district, one of the most violent areas of Baghdad.

The explosion occurred as Iraq's electoral commission announced the final results of December's parliamentary elections, which confirmed the dominance of the ruling Shi'ite Alliance.
