War Crimes Tribunal Reduces Sentence For Bosnian Serb

Momir Nikolic (AFP) March 8, 2006 -- The UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague today reduced to 20 years a 27-year prison sentence handed down on Momir Nikolic, a former Bosnian Serb security and intelligence officer found guilty in 2003 of participating in the 1995 Srebrenica massacre.

Nikolic was the first Bosnian Serb officer to plead guilty to involvement in the killings of over 8,000 men and boys in the UN-protected enclave of Srebrenica in 1995.

Nikolic appealed against the sentence, arguing that it was harsher than the 15- to 20-year imprisonment the prosecution had requested.
