Afghan Suicide Attack Misses French Convoy

Canadian troops secure the site of a suicide attack in Kandahar in early March (file photo) (epa) March 19, 2006 -- A convoy of French troops in southern Afghanistan has emerged largely unscathed from a suicide car-bomb attack near the Pakistani border, in Kandahar Province.

The bomber was killed when he rammed his vehicle into the convoy; one French soldier sustained minor injuries.


No one has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Earlier this month, a French soldier died in a clash with suspected Taliban rebels in Kandahar.


In other news, an Afghan government official, Yousuf Stanizai, said two policemen were killed in a clash with insurgents in Kandahar province late on March 18. Four other officers are missing. Two suspected Taliban fighters were also killed.
