March 29, 2006 -- The U.S. military say international forces have today killed 32 insurgents in Afghanistan in a number of clashes triggered by an attack by neo-Taliban forces on a military base in the southern province of Helmand.
In the initial round of fighting, 12 members of the Taliban were killed, as well as one U.S. and one Canadian soldier.
In a counterattack, coalition forces then reportedly destroyed two Taliban headquarters.
Fighting is continuing.
Elsewhere in the country's troubled south, two police officers died when their post in the southern city of Kandahar was attacked late on March 28.
