April 11, 2006 -- Pakistani Interior Minister Aftab Sherpao says at least 40 people were killed when a bomb exploded at a religious gathering in the southern city of Karachi today.
The bomb was placed under a stage at a public park where people had gathered for a prayer service to celebrate the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad.
No one has claimed responsibility for the bombing.
Scenes of mass confusion broke out after the explosion. Police forces fired into the air to disperse crowds that massed at the scene.
