Tajikistan Bans Child Adoption By Foreigners

(RFE/RL) April 12, 2006 -- Tajikistan's lower house of parliament has banned the adoption of Tajik children by foreigners.

Sherkhon Salimov, the head of the parliamentary human rights committee, said the amendments would, however, allow the adoption of children by couples that include one Tajik national.

Salimov says the law complies with international agreements signed by Tajikistan.
