Hungary's Socialist-Led Coalition Prevails In Elections

Hungarian Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany (file photo) (epa) April 24, 2006 -- Hungary's Socialist-led ruling coalition has become the first Hungarian government to win reelection since the collapse of communism in 1989.

Results of a second round of voting on April 23 show the coalition led by Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany on track to increase its majority to 210 seats in the 386-member legislature.


The opposition conservative Fidesz party is expected to control 164 seats.
