Three Die In Taliban Attack In Southern Afghanistan

An Afghan police officer inspecting the wreckage of a car bomb in Kandahar, March 2006 (epa) May 8, 2006 -- Suspected Taliban fighters ambushed a police patrol in southern Afghanistan overnight, sparking a gunbattle that left at least two policemen and one of the attackers dead.
The attack happened in Zabul Province along the highway linking the cities of Kandahar and Kabul. The area has seen an increase in violence blamed on the Taliban in recent weeks.


In the eastern city of Jalalabad today, three bombs exploded in the central market. No one was hurt in the attack, which caused property damage.
