Belarus Unveils Monument To Secret Police

The Dzerzhinsky monument in Minsk today (Bymedia.net) May 26, 2006 -- A monument to the founder of the Soviet secret police was unveiled today in the Belarusian capital Minsk.
The monument is an exact copy of a statue of Felix Dzerzhinsky outside the Moscow headquarters of the KGB that pro-democracy crowds tore down in 1991.


The Minsk monument has provoked protests from human rights activists and opposition politicians.
